At CSJ we aim to educate autonomous, responsible, creative, daring, entrepreneurial people, concerned with the common good, able to have an active role in the society they belong to and in some way influence their culture.

Boldness / entrepreneurship is even one of VOAR’s leading ideas. Our students become aware of the world around them – their school, their city, or anywhere around the Globe – and through projects they call “Initiatives”, they work and give their contribution to make this World a better and more beautiful place.

For this reason, in 2018, Ashoka, the largest international network of social entrepreneurship, attributed to the CSJ the status of Changemaker (Transformi​ng) School. The institution motto is “the construction of a world in which we can all be agents of positive social transformation”.

Apart from the interest demonstrated by all the teachers, schools and institutions that have visited our school, several national and international researchers have been developing their academic research about VOAR, namely:

Furthermore, the Universities of Porto, Lisbon and Coimbra, as well as the Ministry of Education – Education Secretary of State and the General Direction of Education – have frequently asked for our collaboration.

The implementation of our Pedagogical Model VOAR has generated great scientific curiosity. As a result, a series of academic articles and publications were launched, thus allowing a bigger impact of the referred model.

During the implementation of the PAFC trial period, and as Colégio de S. José has integrated the net of schools involved in the project, the school was many times called upon to share their experience and teaching practices. In addition to CSJ´s multiple participations in meetings and education seminars around the country, in 2018/19 we started a 3-year partnership with Gowe and ADIBER, for teacher training in the Oliveira do Hospital School Grouping.

The CSJ has also been a centre of continuing education, welcoming teachers from all over the world who have visited us to study, investigate and experience our Pedagogical Model.

Here is a comment from Polish teachers who visited CSJ in 2019 for a course on “Project Work at School”.

In 2019/20 they are coming back, and they will bring along 30 students to experience project work methodology at CSJ.

We have just finished our project work with the class that we are planning to take to your school next year.

It turned out to be a real success – they worked hard and they were really enthusiastic about the whole process. The attendance was almost 100% which is rather unusual for the last week of the school year. We also managed to invite for the presentation the teachers from other schools and they really appreciated the job.
So we’d like to thank you again for inspiring us and for the documents you sent us. Let’s hope we’ll continue this kind of teaching method next year as an integral part of our curriculum.
